Abstract

Conceptions about disability are diverse, as is cultural, social, and economic diversity. The university community has an environment conducive to developing critical thinking, analysis and reflection, which provides the opportunity for the training of professionals who are challenged to examine different perspectives, including those related to disability. The purpose of this work was to compile and discuss the results of studies already carried out with the university population with regard to conceptions of disability through a systematic review of the literature of the last eleven years, based on the Main Items for Reporting Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA), in the CAPES Journal and VHL (Virtual Health Library) databases. In the seven articles found, the prevalence of the social conception of disability was verified, followed by the biological one; far below, metaphysics. Characteristics such as public universities, older age and courses in the Humanities are, bring samples that tend to view disability from a social point of view. Some constructs (“age”, “sex”, “courses”, and “course entry time”) were not covered by all studies, therefore, they were little discussed and important correlations were no longer made. Daily discussions can only be overcome through a critical look at the current social structure, based on the observed weaknesses. In this context, it is crucial to understand how disability is viewed, especially in the university context, since the university is a producer of discourses from which problems are defined and other paths of reflection can be constructed.
