The need to analyze performance in work organizations has made studies in the field of administrative sciences develop over the years. It is known that education plays a role of extreme social relevance. Given this perspective, what approaches can be used to analyze the efficiency of these educational institutions? This paper aims to carry out an integrative review of efficiency in public educational institutions. The research is based on the application of public financial resources in public teaching institutions and on the analysis around the concept of efficiency and its analytical conception about public teaching institutions. As methodological resources, an integrative review of efficiency in public educational institutions is carried out according to the model proposed by Torraco (2016). As a result, it is observed that the scientific production that deals with efficiency in public education is quite diverse, ranging from theoretical studies (conceptual discussion) to applied research in several countries (measurement of the efficiency of institutions). In summary, the results show that relatively recent studies indicate that the subject is an emerging topic with several discussions and debates not yet consolidated or open. There is also an absence of consolidated research groups in the area and publications with more discussion among their authors.
