"You need more": reflections about work in esports context

Abstract

Work takes on the task of managing time, which is dominated by a sense of productivity and profitability in the context of contemporary society – named the Performance Society. From this perspective, the present study sought to reflect about work in esports context - a name used to refer to competitive video games at a professional level. The qualitative and exploratory study was based on the podcast episode entitled "eSports Professionals", which was broadcast by the Nerdcast program on May 15, 2020. The study made it possible to perceive that in the context of esports the work is intensified and reproduces the perspectives that guide the Performance Society as well as the prevailing logic of “yes, we can” that governs it.
