ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF THE EXTRACTS OF Baccharis dracunculifolia D. The evaluation was made using the method of diffusion in MH (Muller-Hinton) Agar described by Vanderpitte et al (1994). To obtain the extracts, 30g of dry material were grinded in 100mL of 70% ethanol, and then concentrated in an exhaustion chapel at room temperature. Two fractions were obtained, one apolar and one polar. These fractions were diluted in water and DMSO, resulting in concentrations from 100% to 3,12%. Discs of filter paper were saturated with these concentrations and distributed in Petri plates containing inoculates of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) for both extracts and both bacteria were determined.
