The experimental delineation was in randomized blocks, with six treatments from different nitrogen doses (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 kg ha-1 of N) with four replications, totalizing 24 plots. Each nitrogen dose was parceled into four times, because four cuts were made in the forage. Collected data was submitted to variance analysis by F test and, when it presents significance it was made the regression analysis.  In some cuts, nitrogen application provided increased at the plant height, number of tillers/m², dry matter percentage, leaf: stem ratio, green weight and dry weight/ha and leaf dry weight/ha. Dry weight/tiller, number of leaves/tiller, dry weight of stems and senescent material/ha did not present significant difference in relation to nitrogen rates in any cut. In the averages and sums of the four cuts, plant height, number of tillers/m², green weight and dry weight/ha and dry weight leaves/ha presented higher values with increasing nitrogen doses. The dose of 200 kg ha-1 of nitrogen presents the best results for the characteristics evaluated in <em>Brachiaria brizantha</em> cv.
